MIDWIFERY DEPARTMENT MASTER'S PROGRAM

OBJECTIVES: To train midwives who can transform their knowledge in the field of midwifery into skills in their field of expertise, have comprehensive, contemporary knowledge and skills, have the ability to think creatively and critically, adhere to international professional ethical values, and carry the identity of a science specialist.

AİMS:

  • Have gained scientific understanding and can transform their knowledge in the field of Midwifery into skills in their field of expertise, have comprehensive and contemporary knowledge and skills, and have the ability to think creatively and critically,
  • Sensitive to the health problems and care needs of the individual, family and society at national and international level, able to use community-supported, multidisciplinary approach methods for health protection, development and solution of health problems in the field of Midwifery,
  • The aim of the program is to train a scientific expert who can access and evaluate information about the concepts, principles and methods of midwifery, conduct scientific research, transfer the knowledge and skills gained to the field of practice and teaching the principles of midwifery, and use the principles and methods of teaching in the field of nursing

Graduates:

1.Independently plan and implement research, evaluate the results obtained and present them for the benefit of humanity.

2.Can work in management-administrative duties related to midwifery.

3.Determine the health-related needs of the individual, family and society in every environment that can be met by midwifery initiatives,

4.Plan midwifery care within the framework of the requirements determined within the scope of the midwifery diagnosis process,

5.Apply, supervise, evaluate midwifery care,

6.Determine the training needs of the patient and healthy individual in the field of health,

7.Prepare a training plan in accordance with the determined requirement,

8.Implement the planned training, evaluate its results,

9.Can apply the treatments given in writing, except in emergencies,

10. Can perform the duties in the legislation put into effect in family medicine practice.

 

DEGREE TO BE EARNED:Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a master's degree in midwifery.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:In order to enroll in this program, candidates must; They must have a bachelor's degree and get at least 55 points from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) held centrally by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). TRANSITION TO THE UPPER TIER:Candidates who have successfully completed their master's degree can study in doctoral programs in their own fields or related fields, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:The master's program consists of at least 7 courses, other learning activities, thesis proposal, thesis study, seminar and specialization course, provided that they are not less than 21 credits in total. Specialization courses, seminars and thesis work are evaluated as sufficient/insufficient. In order to graduate from the master's program, students of the Department of Midwifery must complete 120 ECTS credits and have a weighted GPA of at least 70 out of 100.

For students who have a master's degree other than the midwifery undergraduate program, there is a requirement to give at least 20 births themselves.

HISTORY:

The master's program of the Department of Midwifery is implemented at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Institute of Health Sciences. In the letter of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated 07.11.2014 and numbered 75850160-104.01.04.01-65471, it was decided to open a Master's Program in the Department of Midwifery at Gaziosmanpaşa University Institute of Health Sciences. Head of the department Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Health Sciences Midwifery Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Özgür ALPARSLAN. He continues his graduate education with 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, and 8 Assistant Professors. The department continues its education life with a total of 43 actively enrolled students.

GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Midwives who graduate from our department can work as specialist midwives in the relevant departments of all public and private health institutions  and as academicians in national and international higher education institutions.

EXAMINATION REGULATIONS, ASSESSMENT AND GRADING: Students are required to attend lectures, practices and exams.

PROGRAM PROFILE:There are 4 classrooms, 1 Mother and Child Health Laboratory and 1 Maternity Laboratory in the department. Applied courses vary according to the content and requirements of the course and are carried out in Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine Research and Application Hospital and institutions and organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Health. The applications of the vocational courses are carried out under the supervision of the responsible instructor of the course.

  • To be able to define the historical development and current situation of midwifery, the basic concepts of midwifery, the duties, powers and responsibilities of the midwife in line with the philosophy of midwifery.

  • To be able to have basic medical sciences knowledge on the basis of midwifery care and practices
  • To develop evidence-based midwifery practices by conducting research in the field of midwifery and to use the results in midwifery practices
  • To be able to follow the activities of professional organizations at national and international level, to cooperate with professional organizations and non-governmental organizations at national and international level

  • To be able to carry out scientific studies that will constitute evidence in the field of midwifery
